Latakia: The Syrian Interior Ministry announced the successful detention and neutralization of an ISIS (Daesh)-linked terror cell, preventing planned attacks in the coastal region. Brigadier General Abdulaziz Hilal al-Ahmad, head of internal security in Latakia, detailed the operation's success in the Badrousieh area, located in the northern Latakia countryside.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ahmad revealed that the security operation was precise and aimed at disrupting the cell's plans to execute terrorist activities in the region. Two members of the terror cell were killed, and several others were apprehended after clashes ensued between security forces and the ISIS operatives. Ahmad did not disclose the exact number of individuals detained but confirmed that an intelligence officer sustained serious injuries during the confrontation.

The operation also led to the seizure of a cache of weapons and ammunition, further preventing potential threats. Following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, Syria's new administration has been committed to restoring security. The transitional government, led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, has focused on political and economic reforms, promoting social cohesion, and enhancing cooperation with regional and international allies.

Assad's departure last December marked the end of nearly 25 years of leadership and the conclusion of the Baath Party's regime, which had been in power since 1963. The new administration continues to address security challenges while pursuing a path of reform and international collaboration.
