Jenin: A Palestinian was killed and five others were detained in an Israeli raid in the West Bank city of Jenin, the army said on Tuesday. A military statement disclosed that Sultan Al-Ghani was killed during an overnight joint operation with the Shin Bet security service in southern Jenin.

According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli authorities claimed that Ghani was linked to a hammer attack that resulted in the death of an illegal settler in the Kedumim settlement near Qalqilya in August 2024. During the same raid, five additional Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that 22-year-old Ghani was shot dead in the village of Marka, located south of Jenin, and that his body was subsequently withheld by Israeli forces.

The escalation of Israeli military actions in the West Bank has been notable since the onset of the Gaza war in October 2023. At least 1,080 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly 11,000 others have been injured due to attacks by the army and illegal settlers in the occupied territory. Additionally, over 20,000 individuals have been arrested.

In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
