Boao: The 57th Executive Board Meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) took place in Boao, a coastal town in China's island province of Hainan. The meeting was co-chaired by Fu Hua, president of China's Xinhua News Agency, and Andrey Kondrashov, director general of Russia's TASS news agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, the gathering was attended by executives from various OANA member news agencies, including Anadolu CEO Serdar Karagoz and Strategic Communications and External Relations Manager Bilgehan Ozturk. A significant development during the meeting was the election of the Mongolian National News Agency MONTSAME to fill a vacant position on the organization's board.

The OANA Executive Board members also released a joint statement emphasizing the need for journalist safety in conflict zones. The statement highlighted the public service role that journalists play in these areas, particularly in combating disinformation and defending the right to information. It called on state institutions worldwide to prioritize the protection of journalists' rights.

Additionally, participants decided that the 58th OANA Board Meeting would be hosted by Qatar's news agency QNA, with the 59th meeting to follow in Vietnam, hosted by the state-run news agency VNA.

In conjunction with the board meeting, panels addressed the transformation brought about by artificial intelligence in media, its ethical implications, and global threats to journalists, along with necessary measures for information security.

Following the formal proceedings, Anadolu CEO Serdar Karagoz met with Fu Hua. During their discussion, Karagoz announced that Trkiye will host the UN climate change conference COP31 next year and that Anadolu will organize an environmental forum preceding the summit. He extended an invitation to Fu and the Xinhua team to attend the forum in Trkiye.
