Washington: US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was "very good, very productive." "We met with the prime minister of Canada, president of Mexico, and we spoke for a half hour," Trump informed reporters upon his arrival at the Kennedy Center. He highlighted that the primary focus of the Friday meeting was "mostly trade."

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump emphasized his strong relationship with Canada, describing them as "very tough traders" while also maintaining good ties with Carney. Despite acknowledging challenges, Trump remarked, "The problem is, Canada makes a lot of things that we don't need because we make them awesome, but we'll work it out," further adding that "Canada is a special place."

The meeting with Sheinbaum and Carney occurred in Washington, DC following the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw ceremony, a tournament the three nations will co-host. Sheinbaum described the meeting as "excellent." The gathering comes amid strained relations due to a trade war instigated by Trump's tariffs on imports from both countries, a move he claims is aimed at addressing illegal immigration, fentanyl trafficking, and trade imbalances, all in anticipation of the 2026 review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Trump recently stated that the US will "either let (it) expire or work out another deal," accusing neighboring countries of exploiting the United States.
