Cairo: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday congratulated the Syrian people on the first anniversary of the Dec. 8 Victory, which they commemorate as Liberation Day, stressing that their struggle and dignity in the face of oppression will never be forgotten.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan marked the occasion by honoring the sacrifices made during Syria's long quest for freedom and recalling the 'pain endured and the honorable stance shown despite all forms of pressure.' In a message posted on his Turkish social media NSosyal account, he emphasized the memory of those lost during the conflict and the legacy of the martyred.

Fidan remarked on the 14-year struggle of the Syrian people, highlighting their resilience and the support Trkiye provided during their darkest days. He stated that Trkiye was committed to ensuring the perseverance of human dignity against tyranny, offering shelter and sustenance when needed.

He expressed pride in standing with the Syrian people, noting that history will remember their stance on the right side. Fidan dismissed the notion that the silence of war-torn cities and the plight of the displaced was inevitable for the region.

In his message, Fidan also commended the Syrian government's efforts to rebuild after years of devastation and expressed optimism about Syria's future. He assured that Trkiye will continue to support Syria's reconstruction and paid homage to those who resisted oppression, praying for peace and mercy for all martyrs.
