US Ambassador to UN Hints at Upcoming Announcements on Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Plan

Ankara:US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz indicated on Wednesday that there will be forthcoming announcements regarding the advancement of President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan in Gaza. This statement followed his meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

According to Anadolu Agency, Waltz praised the recent UN Security Council resolution concerning the Gaza plan, describing it as one of the most positive resolutions for Israel and regional stability. He highlighted the authorization achieved through this resolution and anticipated new announcements from the Board of Peace, led by President Trump. The plan's key components include establishing a technocratic authority for Palestinians to restore essential services in Gaza, a funding mechanism for owners, and the deployment of an international stabilization force.

President Herzog expressed optimism that the process would proceed swiftly, emphasizing the urgency of momentum in the Middle East to prevent Iran and its proxies from regrouping. The US Mission to the UN reported that Waltz and Herzog discussed the necessity of maintaining maximum pressure on Iran to prevent destabilization in the region. They concurred on the importance of rapidly implementing Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the War in Gaza, focusing on demilitarizing Hamas and ensuring its exclusion from Gaza's future governance.

Waltz extended his gratitude to Herzog for his cooperation with the United States, with both leaders committing to combat antisemitism and anti-Israel bias within the United Nations. The ceasefire, which took effect on October 10 under Trump's plan, halted two years of Israeli attacks that resulted in the deaths of over 70,000 people, primarily women and children, and caused injuries to nearly 171,000 others since October 2023. The first phase of the agreement includes the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and outlines plans for Gaza's reconstruction and the establishment of a new governance structure excluding Hamas.
