Amman: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China's commitment to supporting small- and medium-sized countries during a meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II. Wang emphasized China's role as a reliable strategic partner for Jordan and other developing nations, focusing on mutual development and revitalization.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wang asserted that China will continue to uphold principles of equality and non-interference, supporting countries in choosing their development paths without imposing external will. King Abdullah reciprocated by highlighting Jordan's intent to boost high-level exchanges and cooperation in various sectors, aiming to address global and regional challenges, including Middle East tensions.

The meeting underscored enhanced cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and emerging fields like artificial intelligence and green energy. Both leaders also called for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the need for immediate aid and political efforts to establish a sovereign Palestinian state.

Wang further discussed China's support for Jordan's economic and social development with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi. He noted the complex Middle Eastern situation and the importance of choosing peace over conflict. Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's support for the one-China principle and expressed interest in expanding cooperation across industries.

China and Jordan's diplomatic relationship, established in 1977 and elevated to a strategic partnership in 2015, continues to grow, with bilateral trade reaching $5.3 billion in 2024. Wang concluded his tour of the Middle East with the visit to Jordan, following trips to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
