Caracas: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has expressed confidence that the American populace will not support any potential military conflict against Venezuela, despite the United States' increased military presence in the Caribbean region. Maduro made these remarks during an interview on a private television channel, emphasizing the American people's preference for peace.

According to Anadolu Agency, Maduro stated that specific elements within the United States are advocating for an "irrational war" with Venezuela. He remarked, "I know that the American people will tie the hands of the warmongering madmen who want to spark a war in South America for oil." Maduro believes that various societal sectors in the US, including labor movements, religious communities, and political circles, value peace and understand the importance of respecting Venezuela's sovereignty.

The Venezuelan President also expressed gratitude towards his citizens who demonstrated against the US's actions concerning the sanctioned oil tanker, The Skipper. The vessel, which was carrying Venezuelan crude oil, was intercepted by US Coast Guard forces on December 10, 2025, in international waters-a move that Venezuela has condemned as "piracy," highlighting the growing tensions between the two nations.

Additionally, Maduro responded to comments made by Chile's newly elected far-right President, Jose Antonio Kast, who suggested the possible deportation of Venezuelans residing in Chile. Maduro urged his compatriots living in Chile to consider returning to Venezuela, given the uncertain climate following the recent election results.
