Karaca’s Remarkable Journey from Modest Workshop to Global Brand

Istanbul: From a humble 30-square-meter workshop in Istanbul's historic Suleymaniye district to a global presence in 43 countries, the story of Turkey's home and lifestyle brand, Karaca, encapsulates the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder and board chairman, Arif Karaca.

According to Anadolu Agency, Karaca's evolution from a small family-run operation to an internationally recognized brand has been driven by long-term commitments to quality, value addition, and sustainable growth. The company operates across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond, showcasing its dedication to these principles.

Arif Karaca's early exposure to trade in his hometown of Malatya, where he assisted in his father's stationery shop, laid the groundwork for his business acumen. At the young age of 9, he embarked on his first significant business venture, purchasing books wholesale from Sivas.

Despite the stationery shop's success, financial setbacks from other ventures compelled the family to close the business. True to their values, they chose to honor all outstanding debts instead of walking away. This decision propelled the family to Istanbul, where they launched a small workshop in Suleymaniye, marking a new chapter in their entrepreneurial journey.

Karaca and his siblings faced challenging conditions while working in this workshop. With limited resources, they often spent nights in the workshop as they endeavored to keep the business afloat. At 17, Karaca rebranded the company as 'Karaca Zuccaciye,' signaling the formal beginning of the Karaca brand.

The company's growth trajectory shifted when it began collaborating with overseas manufacturers to meet its quality and design needs. For three years, Karaca explored porcelain factories worldwide, forming partnerships with manufacturers in Italy, France, Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, China, and India. This strategic expansion coincided with Turkey's economic liberalization in the 1980s under President Turgut ‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦€š¬…€œzal, which revitalized the trade environment.

Karaca emphasized that the company has always prioritized quality over price. The brand avoided competing on price, focusing instead on producing high-quality products under the Karaca name. Additionally, Karaca revitalized established brands like Jumbo, Emsan, and Homend, restoring them to prominence.

Family unity and ethical values have been integral to Karaca's success. Arif Karaca stresses the link between business ethics and national responsibility, highlighting the importance of contributing positively to the country. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs emphasizes the significance of patience, honesty, and financial literacy in achieving business success.
