Israeli Army Claims Airstrike in Lebanon Killed Hezbollah Member

Beirut: The Israeli army announced on Monday an airstrike in southern Lebanon that reportedly killed a Hezbollah member, despite an existing ceasefire agreement between the two nations since late last year. The military operation, which took place in the Yater area of Bint Jbeil district on Sunday, targeted two individuals, with one confirmed fatality. The army stated that the deceased was allegedly involved in efforts to restore Hezbollah's military infrastructure in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Hezbollah has not yet issued a response to the Israeli army's assertion. However, the Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed that the airstrike resulted in one death and two injuries, affecting individuals traveling in a car and on a motorcycle in Yater. This incident follows a pattern of similar claims from the Israeli military, which last week reported the killing of four Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon.

The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was established in November 2024, following over a year of cross-border hostilities during the conflict in Gaza, which resulted in more than 4,000 deaths and 17,000 injuries. As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces were expected to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January but have only conducted a partial withdrawal, maintaining a presence at five border outposts.
