Dublin: The Irish president on Monday expressed her thoughts with millions around the world who are affected by wars and displacement, especially the people of Palestine, Ukraine, and Sudan.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Catherine Connolly, delivering her first Christmas message, emphasized the profound challenges faced by millions due to interconnected crises such as climate change, war, conflict, and displacement. She highlighted the ongoing struggles in Palestine, Ukraine, and Sudan, drawing parallels with Ireland's own history of emigration and conflict.
Connolly's address, delivered in both Irish and English, aimed to foster solidarity with those experiencing fear, uncertainty, or loss during the festive season. She acknowledged the plight of those missing loved ones, struggling without a home, or feeling isolated.
The president also extended her appreciation to the Irish Defense Forces, recognizing their sacrifices in safeguarding peace overseas. Her message coincides with ongoing global conflicts, including Israel's continued actions in Gaza, the persistent civil war in Sudan, and efforts to resolve Russia's war on Ukraine, which has persisted since February 2022.
