Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping convened a meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday, aiming to intensify efforts against corruption, improve conduct, and establish integrity as priorities for the upcoming year.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting emphasized the CPC's resolve to combat corruption under its 'strong leadership.' Authorities across all levels are set to escalate their efforts to 'improve conduct, build integrity, and combat corruption,' maintaining a firm stance against corrupt practices. The directive also outlined that in 2026, discipline, inspection, and supervision bodies must adhere to higher standards and implement more effective measures to support economic and social development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
Prior to the meeting, Xi led a session of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. During this session, reports on the work of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision for 2025 were presented, alongside preparations for the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. This session is scheduled to occur from January 12 to 14.
In a related development, Xi has elevated two military officials from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to the rank of general, reflecting the ongoing anti-corruption initiatives within the military. State CCTV footage revealed that Gen. Chang Dingqiu and Guo Puxiao, Air Force commander and political commissar respectively, were absent from a ceremony that addressed top-level vacancies created by the crackdown. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.
In October, Beijing disclosed the expulsion of two members from the influential Central Military Commission as part of disciplinary actions involving nine officers accused of corruption-related offenses. Furthermore, in 2025, China imposed capital punishment on several senior officials found guilty of corruption, including former Agriculture Minister Tang Renjian and former Sports Minister Gou Zhongwen. Additionally, Bai Tianhui, the former general manager of China Huarong International, was executed on December 9 following a bribery conviction.
