Athens: A seasoned Greek journalist has criticized Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration for aligning with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's interests, following a trilateral summit earlier this week. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Greek Premier Mitsotakis, and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides convened on Monday in West Jerusalem, where 'defense cooperation' was reportedly a primary topic of discussion.

According to Anadolu Agency, journalist John Kountouris expressed concerns that the meeting signified Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration's alignment with Netanyahu's political agenda. Kountouris remarked, "Unfortunately, both Greece and (Greek) Cyprus are serving this dictator and his interests in line with the so-called 'Greater Israel' project," referring to Netanyahu.

Kountouris further argued that Mitsotakis' visit to Israel was based on 'false and misleading assumptions.' While energy cooperation was presented as the main justification, he believes the actual motive is linked to Israel's broader 'imperialist agenda' in the Middle East and Europe. He criticized Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration for not condemning Israel's policies towards Palestinians, which he described as acts amounting to genocide, and instead rewarding Israel through such agreements.

Additionally, Kountouris highlighted concerns about Israel's alleged destruction of Hellenistic cultural heritage in Palestinian territories and the killing of Greek Orthodox Christians, noting Mitsotakis' silence on these issues. The journalist also claimed that the situation represents 'an open betrayal of the Greek people,' asserting that the US is directing both Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration to act in alignment with Israeli interests.

Kountouris contended that this policy is connected to Washington's aim of controlling natural gas pipelines in the region, while sidelining both Russia and Trkiye as key energy players.
