Ankara: Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has expressed profound gratitude towards Trkiye for its unwavering support during Sudan's ongoing conflict. Al-Burhan emphasized the robust and 'historic, fraternal' ties shared between the two nations during his address at the Sudanese Embassy in Ankara on Saturday evening. His visit was primarily intended to extend thanks to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his administration, and the Turkish populace for their steadfast solidarity with Sudan, devoid of any 'hypocrisy or pretense.'

According to Anadolu Agency, al-Burhan highlighted that the current events in Sudan have underscored the strength of the relationship between the two countries, positioning it as a potential model for strategic partnerships, especially in challenging times. He noted the global attention garnered by President Erdogan's multiple statements on Sudan made within a single week, which, he said, signifies Sudan's significance to Trkiye.

During discussions last Thursday at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, Erdogan and al-Burhan delved into bilateral relations and examined regional and international developments. Al-Burhan committed to facilitating the entry of aid from the Turkish Red Crescent into Sudan and showed readiness to provide necessary warehouse facilities for it. He acknowledged Trkiye's assistance in health cooperation and assured that measures would be taken to support Turkish humanitarian efforts.

Al-Burhan also expressed a desire to see Trkiye included in the international Quad mechanism, which consists of the US, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. This mechanism aims to bolster efforts to terminate the conflict and restore peace and stability in Sudan. In September 2025, the Quad proposed a three-month humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan, intending to pave the way for a lasting resolution and a nine-month transitional process, ultimately leading to the establishment of an independent civilian government.

The conflict, which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has resulted in the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions, emphasizing the urgent need for international intervention and support.
