Tel aviv: The Israeli army announced on Sunday the withdrawal of a reserve brigade from southern Syria after the completion of its mission. A new unit is scheduled to deploy to the region in the coming days.

According to Anadolu Agency, troops from the 55th Brigade completed over 100 days of operational activity, successfully concluding their mission since the start of the conflict. The brigade operated under the command of the 210th Division, actively defending the Golan Heights and a designated security zone in southern Syria over the past three months.

The Israeli military stated that the departing brigade will soon be replaced by another reserve brigade, which will continue operational activities in southern Syria and the Golan Heights. Despite the Syrian government's lack of threat to Israel, Israeli forces have repeatedly entered Syrian territory, conducting airstrikes that have resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of military infrastructure.

Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone, violating a 1974 agreement with Syria.
