Ankara: Trkiye on Saturday approved an investment protection agreement with Hong Kong and a United Nations marine biodiversity agreement, with the laws published in the Official Gazette and entering into force.

According to Anadolu Agency, approval was granted for the 'Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Trkiye and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments.' This agreement was signed in Ankara on June 1, 2023, and in Hong Kong on Oct. 31, 2023. It aims to enhance bilateral investment relations between Trkiye and Hong Kong.

Separately, Trkiye approved the 'Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction.' This agreement was signed in New York, US, on Sept. 27, 2024, and includes accompanying declarations. It focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in international waters.

Both agreements entered into force upon their publication in the Official Gazette, marking Trkiye's commitment to international cooperation in investment protection and marine biodiversity conservation.
