Aleppo: Syria's army will launch a limited military operation in Aleppo targeting the PKK/YPG terror group, following recent attacks on civilians, the country's Information Ministry said Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, the operation is a response to the Syrian Democratic Forces' (SDF) ongoing attacks on civilian residential areas, main roads, and security forces. The Syrian Arab Army aims to address the situation in Aleppo, where more than 20 civilians have been killed and over 150 others wounded in the past month. Additionally, more than 25 soldiers have lost their lives in these attacks, which have disrupted trade and daily life in the city.

The Information Ministry stated that the operation will be carried out based on a local decision and at the request of the people of Aleppo. Its primary goals include halting ongoing artillery fire, sniper, and drone attacks, restoring security, reopening the Aleppo-Azaz road, and protecting civilians.

The ministry emphasized that military activities will adhere to international law, focusing on evacuating civilians. It clarified that the operation will target armed groups responsible for the attacks, not the civilian population.

The PKK/YPG terror group is operating under the name of SDF in the country. The situation escalated after the SDF renewed shelling of residential neighborhoods in Aleppo for the second consecutive day on Wednesday morning. This follows a series of attacks by the SDF on Tuesday, which resulted in at least five fatalities and 16 injuries.

The Syrian Civil Defense earlier reported that it had evacuated 850 civilians from Aleppo, citing deteriorating humanitarian conditions and ongoing shelling by the SDF.
