Danish Defense Minister Praises Upcoming Greenland Talks with US as ‘Really Good News’

Denmark: Denmark's Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen on Thursday expressed approval for a planned meeting with the United States regarding Greenland, describing it as 'really good news.' Poulsen highlighted the importance of direct dialogue, stating that engaging in discussions directly rather than through media channels is beneficial. He emphasized the need for these talks to occur in a confidential setting.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, Poulsen reiterated the necessity of this dialogue, which has been called for by both the Danish and Greenlandic governments. The meeting comes in response to rising tensions following remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a meeting with Danish officials next week, after Denmark requested discussions in light of recent developments.

Tensions escalated after President Trump renewed his interest in acquiring Greenland, citing national security concerns. He asserted that Denmark would be unable to manage Greenland's security needs. Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has consistently rejected any proposals for transferring sovereignty to the US.

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has responded to Trump's statements by urging a cessation of threats, emphasizing that any aggressive actions would halt everything. The Danish government remains firm in its stance, seeking peaceful and diplomatic resolutions through upcoming talks.
