Sidon: An Israeli drone strike claimed the life of one individual in southern Lebanon, challenging the ceasefire agreement established since late 2024, as reported by Lebanese media. The strike targeted a vehicle traveling on a road between the towns of Zaita and Banafoul, located in the Sidon district.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, the attack highlights ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement by Israel, which was enacted in November 2024 to bring an end to over a year of cross-border hostilities. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, but Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee suggested via social media that the strike was directed at a Hezbollah member.

Lebanese media further reported that the drone strike was accompanied by intensive low-altitude flights in the vicinity, raising tensions in the region. This incident occurs amid reports from Israeli media about the army's readiness for a potential large-scale offensive against Hezbollah positions should the Lebanese government and army fail to disarm the group.

Israel's public broadcaster, KAN, mentioned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed ministers of a 'green light' from US President Donald Trump to launch an attack on Lebanon, citing Hezbollah's steadfast refusal to disarm as the reason.

The ceasefire, which concluded more than a year of cross-border hostilities during the Gaza war, resulted in over 4,000 deaths and 17,000 injuries. As part of the agreement, the Israeli army was expected to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January of this year. However, the withdrawal remains incomplete, with Israel maintaining a military presence at five border outposts.
