Ankara: Trkiye and Indonesia's foreign and defense ministers are scheduled to convene for a joint meeting in Ankara on Friday to review bilateral ties, according to Turkish diplomatic sources. The meeting will be attended by Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, along with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
According to Anadolu Agency - English, this meeting aims to enable a comprehensive review of the strategic dimensions of Trkiye-Indonesia relations, encompassing political, defense and security, defense industry, economy, and trade aspects. A significant focus will be placed on evaluating recent developments in the defense industry between the two nations.
Discussions are expected to center around enhancing cooperation in joint production, technology transfer, training, and capacity building. A joint communique is anticipated to be adopted at the conclusion of the meeting.
The decision to organize this meeting was made during the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Indonesia in 2025. Trkiye and Indonesia have set a target to reach a bilateral trade volume of $10 billion, having achieved a volume of $2.8 billion in 2024.
In recent years, Ankara and Jakarta have been strengthening their defense cooperation, particularly through joint projects in defense industry and military capabilities.
