Amman: Jordan and the US have reiterated their support for efforts to ensure a ceasefire and advocate for the peaceful withdrawal of the terrorist organization YPG/SDF from the northern Syrian city of Aleppo.

According to Anadolu Agency, the remarks were made during a meeting between Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack in Amman, where they discussed the situation in Syria. A statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, shared by Barrack via US social media platform X, highlighted their discussions focused on ongoing cooperation to bolster Syria's security, sovereignty, unity, and stability, while ensuring the rights and safety of all Syrian citizens are protected.

The statement emphasized the commitment of both Jordan and the United States to support efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring the peaceful withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from Aleppo, while guaranteeing civilian security and protection. Additionally, the leaders underscored the necessity for the immediate implementation of the March 10, 2025 Agreement, to which both the Syrian government and the SDF had previously committed.

Safadi and Barrack also addressed the ongoing crisis in southern Syria, specifically in Suwayda, reaffirming joint efforts to implement a roadmap adopted on September 16, 2025, aimed at stabilizing the region and achieving a comprehensive resolution to the situation.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Army announced the completion of a full security sweep of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo amid escalating tensions with the YPG/SDF. Since Tuesday, the group has shelled residential neighborhoods, civilian facilities, and Syrian Army positions, resulting in nine deaths, 55 injuries, and the displacement of approximately 165,000 residents from Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods.

Despite the March 10, 2025 agreement for the integration of the SDF into state institutions, authorities report that the SDF has not made efforts to adhere to the agreement's terms. The Syrian government has been intensifying efforts to maintain security across the country, following the ousting of the Assad regime in December 2024, which marked the end of a 24-year rule.
