London: Iran "has now been offline for 48 hours," according to London-based internet monitoring group NetBlocks, which made the announcement on Saturday. Telemetry indicates the nationwide internet restriction "remains firmly in place," the group stated on US social media company X.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran has been experiencing waves of protests since last month, beginning on December 28 at Tehran's Grand Bazaar. The protests were sparked by the sharp depreciation of the Iranian rial and worsening economic conditions. These demonstrations have since spread to several other cities.

There are no official estimates on casualties; however, the non-governmental organization HRANA reported that the death toll stands at 65, with over 2,300 individuals detained.
