Aleppo: The Syrian Army announced on Saturday that the YPG/SDF, labeled as a terrorist organization by the government, has escalated military activities to a 'dangerous phase' in Aleppo. This comes after the group attacked the city and targeted civilian infrastructure, including mosques and public facilities, using more than ten Iranian-made drones.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that these attacks resulted in civilian injuries and significant material damage. In retaliation, the Syrian Army stated that it targeted the drone launch sites and successfully destroyed several heavy vehicles belonging to the SDF.

The Syrian Army described its actions as an 'initial response' and warned that further military operations are planned and will be executed at an appropriate time and place. The Operations Command also highlighted that the military operations will extend beyond the current level of response.

In the wake of these developments, Syrian authorities have started relocating surrounded SDF members from Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood to the northern city of Tabqah in Raqqa province. This relocation follows a halt in military operations in the area.

Since Tuesday, the SDF has reportedly been shelling residential areas, civilian facilities, and Syrian Army positions in Aleppo. These attacks have resulted in 23 fatalities, over 100 injuries, and the displacement of approximately 165,000 residents from Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts.

In March 2025, a significant agreement was signed by the Syrian presidency for the integration of the SDF into state institutions, emphasizing the nation's territorial unity. Further, in April 2025, an agreement was reached specifically concerning the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, which included bans on armed manifestations and required the withdrawal of SDF forces to areas east of the Euphrates River.

However, authorities claim that the SDF has not adhered to the terms of these agreements in the months following their signing. The Syrian government has been intensifying efforts to maintain security and stability in the country since the removal of the Assad regime in December 2024, ending a 24-year rule.
