Washington: US Rep. Shri Thanedar announced Wednesday his intention to introduce a bill aimed at abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Thanedar, representing Michigan, emphasized the need for drastic measures, stating that ICE is beyond reform and must be dissolved.

According to Anadolu Agency, Thanedar's announcement follows the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Macklin Good, a 37-year-old American woman, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This incident has led to significant public and political backlash, with calls for investigations at multiple government levels.

Thanedar also expressed his support for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. In a statement, he accused Noem of misleading Congress and the American public, asserting that ICE agents have caused significant disruption under her leadership. He believes Noem has undermined democratic principles.

In a related development, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, along with 70 House Democrats, introduced three articles of impeachment against Noem on Wednesday, intensifying the political scrutiny surrounding the leadership of the Department of Homeland Security.
