Ankara: The Turkish National Defense Ministry on Thursday reaffirmed its support for Syria's unity and territorial integrity in a press briefing, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the two nations' security concerns. Ministry sources highlighted a recent counterterrorism operation executed by the Syrian government in Aleppo, aimed at re-establishing public order and ensuring civilian safety.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Syrian government's efforts in Aleppo were described as successful in promoting unity and cohesion among Syria's various ethnic groups. The Turkish National Defense Ministry reiterated its stance on supporting Syria under the principle of "one state, one army," and expressed readiness to assist Syria in its counterterrorism endeavors, should there be a request for such support.

In March 2025, the Syrian presidency announced an agreement to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into state institutions, reinforcing the country's territorial unity and rejecting any attempts at division. Subsequently, in April, Syrian authorities signed an agreement concerning Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, maintaining their administrative ties to the city while respecting local distinctiveness. The agreement also prohibited armed manifestations, restricted weapons to internal security forces, and required the SDF to withdraw to areas east of the Euphrates River in northeastern Syria.

Despite these agreements, authorities reported that the SDF has not adhered to the stipulated terms. Efforts to restore nationwide security have intensified since the removal of the Assad regime in December 2024, marking the end of a 24-year rule.
