Islamabad: In a striking revelation, an Iranian envoy disclosed that US President Donald Trump had communicated to Tehran that he does not intend to attack Iran, while simultaneously urging the country to exercise restraint.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran's Ambassador to Islamabad, Reza Amiri Moghadam, reported receiving information at around 1 am indicating Trump's aversion to war. The US president, however, requested Iran to refrain from targeting US interests in the region. This development was shared by Moghadam during a session on Thursday.

Concerns had been mounting since Wednesday over a potential US offensive against Iran. This anxiety was fueled by reports suggesting that the US had begun withdrawing personnel from its military bases in the Middle East. Furthermore, Washington had advised American citizens to leave Iran promptly, adding to the speculation.

President Trump had previously issued threats to penalize Tehran following reports of fatalities in Iran amidst anti-government demonstrations. However, in a notable shift, Trump softened his tone during a speech at the White House on Wednesday. He acknowledged receiving information that the executions in Iran had ceased, while also expressing a somber warning that any resurgence would be met with disappointment.

Amidst ongoing protests, Iranian officials have accused the US and Israel of supporting what they term as "riots" and "terrorism." Although Iranian authorities have not provided official figures concerning casualties or arrests, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) estimates suggest that over 2,600 individuals, including protesters and security forces, have been killed.
