Venezuelan Economy Sees 8.5% Growth in 2025 Under Interim Leadership

Caracas: Venezuela's interim president announced Friday that the country's economy grew 8.5% on a yearly basis in 2025, according to state television VTV. This marks a significant economic development for the nation, which has been under the interim leadership of Delcy Rodriguez following recent political upheavals.

According to Anadolu Agency, Rodriguez addressed the parliament in Caracas, highlighting that the Venezuelan economy has experienced continuous growth for 19 consecutive quarters. This announcement comes shortly after Rodriguez assumed the interim presidency earlier this month, following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro by US forces and his subsequent transfer to New York to face trial. Rodriguez emphasized Venezuela's standing as one of the leading economies in Latin America during her address.

In her speech, Rodriguez also disclosed plans to propose reforms to the Organic Hydrocarbons Law to the parliament. She stated that Venezuela has achieved notable success over the past decade, with all gasoline supplied within the country being produced domestically by Venezuelan workers, eliminating the need for fuel imports. Additionally, Rodriguez announced the creation of two sovereign funds to manage foreign currency inflows and proposed the development of a technological platform to ensure transparency and prevent corruption. She pledged improvements in critical public sectors, including healthcare, education, housing, and essential services like water and electricity.

Rodriguez's interim presidency began on January 5, following US airstrikes on Venezuela on January 3, which led to the capture of Maduro. As the nation navigates this transitional period, Rodriguez's economic announcements signal a focus on stability and growth for Venezuela's future.
