Moscow: Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov engaged in a phone conversation with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, to address the escalating tensions in Iran. The diplomats focused on the ongoing crisis in Iran, which is described as being intensified externally, posing a risk of expanding into a wider regional conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the necessity of averting such a negative outcome and highlighted the importance of respecting the sovereignty of states by refraining from interfering in their internal affairs, as mandated by the UN Charter. The ministers also underscored the need for augmented collective efforts to foster conditions conducive to a broad, inclusive intra-Yemeni dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations.

Additionally, Lavrov and Al Busaidi touched on the progression of Russian-Omani relations across multiple sectors. This dialogue occurred amidst increased regional tensions and concerns over a potential US military strike against Iran.

US President Donald Trump has expressed support for the protesters in Iran, despite softening his stance in recent statements. Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have accused the US and Israel of supporting unrest and terrorism during the protests. A US-based human rights organization reported that at least 2,677 individuals have been killed, and approximately 19,100 have been detained during the protests. Iranian officials have yet to release an official count.
