Damascus: Syria announced Wednesday that 11 soldiers were killed and more than 25 were wounded due to ceasefire violations by the YPG/SDF terror organization on the first day of an agreed deal.
According to Anadolu Agency, Alikhbariah TV detailed that seven soldiers lost their lives in al-Yarubiyah in northeastern Hasakah province, two were killed near Mount Abdul Aziz, south of Hasakah, and two more died in the Sirin area east of Aleppo.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the Defense Ministry initially stated seven soldiers were killed and 20 others were wounded in a drone attack by the terror group. The attack targeted an ammunition site near the al-Yarubiyah border crossing in the Hasakah countryside. Army units later discovered a workshop for manufacturing improvised explosive devices and drone munitions near this location.
The Defense Ministry noted that the facility housed several Iranian-made drones that the SDF was preparing to arm. Following attempts to secure and sweep the site, the SDF attacked it using a suicide drone, resulting in seven soldiers’ deaths and 20 injuries.
An Operations Command statement, also carried by SANA, revealed that within 20 hours of the ceasefire agreement, SDF forces executed multiple assaults on Syrian Army positions. These included drone strikes near the town of Sarrin, heavy gunfire from around al-Sanaa village and nearby hills east of Aleppo, as well as artillery shelling in Kharab Ashiq village and at al-Aliyah grain silos in the Hasakah countryside.
The statement further described a SDF attack on army positions south of Mount Abdul Aziz in Hasakah province, involving three armored vehicles and several wheeled military vehicles. The clashes persisted for more than two hours after midnight, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and the destruction of an army tank.
Additionally, the army reported that the SDF targeted military vehicles near Sarrin with suicide drones, destroying one vehicle and igniting another. These incidents unfolded following the presidency’s announcement on Tuesday of a ‘mutual understanding’ with the terror group regarding the future of Hasakah province.
The Defense Ministry had declared a four-day ceasefire with the SDF, effective from 8 pm local time (1700GMT) Tuesday.
