Damascus: Syria’s Defense Ministry warned the SDF group Tuesday against failing to comply with a ceasefire and against targeting the Syrian Army and Internal Security Forces. The warning came in a recorded statement by the ministry’s spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Hassan Abdul Ghani, published on the US social media company X’s platform.

According to Anadolu Agency, Brig. Gen. Hassan Abdul Ghani stated, “SDF forces must adhere to the provisions of the Jan. 18 agreement and to the specified timeframe of the ceasefire.” He emphasized the necessity for the SDF to comply with these agreements and warned against targeting the Syrian Army and Internal Security Forces.

Abdul Ghani affirmed the ministry’s readiness to take over prisons holding ISIS (Daesh) elements and transfer them to security authorities. He reassured Kurdish citizens of “the state’s commitment to protecting them and safeguarding their property.”

The spokesperson highlighted the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to implementing the understanding reached with the SDF regarding Hasakah province’s future, alongside the ceasefire. He emphasized the ministry’s dedication to preventing bloodshed and building a peaceful solution that ensures Syria’s unity, security, and stability.

Brig. Gen. Abdul Ghani reiterated the state’s ongoing confrontation with ISIS, expressing the Defense Ministry’s readiness to manage the group’s prisons and transfer them to the Ministry of Interior. The Syrian presidency announced that a “mutual understanding” had been reached with the SDF concerning Hasakah province’s future.

The Defense Ministry further announced a four-day ceasefire with the SDF, effective from 8 pm local time (1700GMT).
