Davos: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the 'important role' of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project in regional connectivity during his meeting with US President Donald Trump. This discussion took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

According to Anadolu Agency, both leaders 'expressed satisfaction' with the progression of bilateral ties in various fields since Trump's inauguration in January 2025. The Azerbaijani presidency released a statement highlighting Trump's historic role in facilitating agreements aimed at advancing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, particularly during the meetings in Washington on August 8 of the previous year.

Aliyev addressed the ongoing normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, noting that peace is now a reality in the region. This is evident from the burgeoning trade relations, including the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia and the transit of imported grain through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia.

The TRIPP project is seen as pivotal for regional connections, linking mainland Azerbaijan with its autonomous Nakhchivan enclave through Armenia. This initiative was formalized in a declaration signed on August 8 at a summit in Washington, DC, involving Aliyev, Trump, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The discussions in Davos also covered Trump's 'Board of Peace,' an international body aimed at strengthening peace in the Middle East and resolving global conflicts. The Azerbaijani presidency's statement mentioned Azerbaijan's invitation to join the board as a testament to the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States and the significant role Azerbaijan plays in promoting global peace.

Earlier in the day, Trump officially launched his 'Board of Peace' at a ceremony in Davos, where he serves as chairman. The initiative, initially designed to manage the Gaza ceasefire and post-war reconstruction, has now broadened its scope to become a global conflict-mediation entity, with both Azerbaijan and Armenia among its members.
