Ankara: A powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the North Pacific Ocean off the Kamchatka region Thursday in Russia's Far East, according to the Unified Geophysical Service (UGS) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). The quake occurred at 12.42 am local time (1242GMT) at a depth of 52 kilometers (32 miles), it said on Telegram.

According to Anadolu Agency, the epicenter was located 143 kilometers (89 miles) south of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which serves as the administrative center of the region. Despite the significant magnitude of the quake, authorities have not reported any damage or casualties in the area.
