Khartoum: The Sudanese army successfully repelled an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its ally, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), in Blue Nile state, located in southeastern Sudan, military sources reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, troops from the army's 4th Infantry Division, supported by allied forces, confronted an early-morning assault by the RSF and SPLM-N on the areas of al-Silk and Malakan. The Sudanese forces managed to repel the attack and destroyed several military vehicles belonging to the attackers, as stated by the sources.

Following the clashes, army personnel shared videos on social media showcasing the destroyed and seized RSF vehicles. As of now, neither the Sudanese military nor the RSF has commented on the incident.

This development follows recent airstrikes carried out by the Sudanese army on RSF and SPLM-N positions in the towns of Yabus and Balila in Blue Nile state. The army maintains control over large parts of Blue Nile, while the SPLM-N has been in conflict with the central government since 2011, seeking autonomy in South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.

In addition to Blue Nile, intense fighting has occurred in Sudan's three Kordofan states, alongside Darfur, between the army and the RSF. This conflict has resulted in the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians.

Of Sudan's 18 states, the RSF currently controls all five states in the western Darfur region, except for parts of North Darfur, which remain under army control. The Sudanese army holds most areas of the remaining 13 states across the south, north, east, and center of the country, including the capital, Khartoum.

The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has led to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions.
