Washington: The White House outlined a three-step plan on Monday for Minnesota officials to restore order and end the need for federal immigration enforcement operations that have sparked deadly confrontations and mass protests.
According to Anadolu Agency, spokesperson Karoline Leavitt informed reporters that US President Donald Trump "outlined a clear and simple path to restoring law and order" in Minnesota in a communication to Governor Tim Walz. The plan's initial step mandates that Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and other Democratic leaders transfer "all criminal illegal aliens currently incarcerated in their prisons and jails to federal authorities, along with any illegal aliens with active warrants or known criminal histories for immediate deportation."
The second step of the plan requires state and local law enforcement to agree to hand over all undocumented individuals arrested by local police, as stated by Leavitt. The third step involves local police assisting federal authorities in apprehending and detaining those wanted for crimes, "especially violent crimes."
Leavitt emphasized that implementing these measures would negate the need for Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the ground in Minnesota. She also mentioned that CBP is conducting its own internal review.
Leavitt attributed a recent fatal shooting to "deliberate and hostile resistance by Democrat leaders in Minnesota," asserting that "nobody in the White House, including President Trump, wants to see people getting hurt or killed in America's streets." She accused Walz and Frey of spreading falsehoods about federal officers and preventing local police from cooperating with ICE.
She also suggested that Trump's "cover-up" allegation pertains to Minnesota officials encouraging protests to divert attention from alleged fraud in the state. The administration is investigating "active organization amongst these left-wing groups," with the FBI and Justice Department involved in the inquiry.
The accusations originate from unsubstantiated claims by a right-wing influencer regarding fraud among Minneapolis' Somali residents, which local officials deny. President Trump announced the deployment of border czar Homan to Minnesota after two fatal shootings by federal agents during immigration operations, which have fueled mass protests. Trump indicated a convergence of viewpoints with Walz on the matter.
