Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled an ambitious plan to bolster the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, emphasizing heightened state intervention at critical entry points such as ports and airports.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron addressed a gathering at the Elysee Palace with the prime minister and several Cabinet ministers, stressing the need for a significant shift in France's approach to combating drug trafficking. He underscored the importance of a comprehensive plan, which is expected to be unveiled within a month, to enhance government action at vital gateways for drug transit.

Macron pointed to successful operations in French Guiana as a model for other regions, advocating for their adaptation across France. He announced imminent 'swift operations' on the mainland and affirmed the continuation of current security measures in overseas territories.

Highlighting the unique challenges in the French West Indies, particularly in Martinique, Macron called for an extensive deployment of interministerial human and technical resources. He urged the formulation of an emergency plan for the archipelagos, stressing the necessity of regional cooperation with North and South American partners.

The Elysee indicated that Macron plans to visit the French West Indies in the coming months to reinforce these efforts. Reaffirming the state's commitment to dismantling drug cartels, Macron emphasized that the measures in the proposed everyday security law must be robust.
