Indonesia: Indonesia's Mount Semeru volcano in East Java erupted seven times within a span of three hours early Wednesday, releasing volcanic ash up to 800 meters above its peak, as reported by state-run media.

According to Anadolu Agency, the initial eruption took place at 4.58 am (2158GMT Tuesday), generating a thick gray ash plume that drifted northeast. The seismic activity associated with this eruption recorded a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and lasted 138 seconds.

Subsequent eruptions occurred at 6.10 am and 6.56 am, with ash columns rising between 300 and 700 meters. Another eruption at 7.05 am sent a 600-meter-high ash column northward. The fifth eruption reached a height of 800 meters, and two additional eruptions were reported as authorities maintained vigilant monitoring of the volcano.

Authorities have advised the public to refrain from activities within 500 meters of the Besuk Kobokan riverbank due to the potential for hot clouds and lava flows to travel up to 17 kilometers from the volcano's summit. Indonesia's location on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' makes it prone to frequent seismic activity, and the country is home to over 120 active volcanoes.
