Beijing: China on Wednesday announced its readiness to collaborate with Costa Rica's newly elected President, Laura Fernandez Delgado. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian extended congratulations to Delgado and emphasized the significance of Costa Rica as an important nation in Central America.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lin Jian highlighted the steady development of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica over the past 18 years. Since establishing formal diplomatic ties in 2007, the two countries have made consistent progress in electoral ties and cooperation across various fields, including the signing of a free trade agreement in 2010.

Delgado, representing the ruling Sovereign People's Party, secured victory in Costa Rica's presidential election held on Sunday. Lin stated that Beijing is eager to work with Costa Rica's new government to serve the fundamental interests of both nations, enhance practical cooperation in various sectors, and strengthen the China-Costa Rica strategic partnership.
