Muscat: Ahead of talks with the US in Oman, the Iranian foreign minister on Friday said Tehran is engaging in diplomacy 'in good faith,' noting that 'commitments need to be honored.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran's Abbas Araghchi emphasized the importance of open-eyed diplomacy and adherence to past commitments in a post on X. He highlighted that the talks would focus on equal standing, mutual respect, and mutual interests as essential components for a lasting agreement.

The upcoming nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran are set to take place in Oman, with the US represented by Jared Kushner and US special envoy Steve Witkoff. The Iranian delegation will be led by Araghchi, who has already arrived in Muscat, as reported by the country's semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

Earlier uncertainty regarding the talks was dispelled after a White House official confirmed to Anadolu that the discussions would proceed as planned. The negotiations occur against a backdrop of escalating tensions between the two nations, marked by a US military buildup in the Persian Gulf and threats of military action from US President Donald Trump.

Efforts by several countries to mediate between Tehran and Washington have been underway in recent days, with Trkiye playing a notably active role in attempting to ease the tensions. The US and Israel accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, while Tehran insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, such as electricity generation.
