Samsung to Launch Mass Production of World’s First 6th-Generation High-Bandwidth Memory

Seoul: Samsung is set to commence mass production of the world's first sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory, HBM4, next week.

According to Anadolu Agency, the technology giant plans to start shipping the HBM4 chips after the Lunar New Year holiday for integration into graphics processing units (GPUs) manufactured by Nvidia Corp., as reported by Seoul-based Yonhap News citing industry sources.

Nvidia's GPUs play a significant role in generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems. The global high-bandwidth memory market is currently led by fifth-generation HBM3E chips; however, industry experts anticipate HBM4 to become a pivotal technology in the future.

Nvidia intends to incorporate HBM4 into its upcoming AI accelerator, named Vera Rubin. Samsung has successfully completed Nvidia's quality certification process and has secured purchase orders. The production timetable has been strategically aligned with Nvidia's launch schedule for Vera Rubin.

Furthermore, Samsung has expanded the volume of HBM4 samples for module testing by customers in line with the latest purchase orders.
