Yerevan: US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Armenia's capital, Yerevan, for a two-day official visit, as reported by state media. During his visit, Vance is scheduled to engage in discussions with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to Anadolu Agency, JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, were welcomed at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport. The Armenian Prime Minister's Office previously announced the visit, which is set to take place from February 9-10. It was reported that Vance will meet with Pashinyan on the first evening of his arrival, after which both leaders are expected to make public statements.
A media note from the US State Department, released on Saturday, highlighted that Vance's visit to Armenia and neighboring Azerbaijan from February 9-11 aims to further President Donald Trump's efforts to promote peace through the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). This initiative seeks to advance peace and prosperity in the region.
The visit follows a trilateral summit held at the White House on August 8 last year, where Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan, and President Trump signed a declaration to end long-standing conflicts. The declaration includes commitments to cease hostilities, reopen transportation routes, and normalize relations between the two nations.
A key component of the TRIPP project is to establish a connection between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan exclave via Armenia. In recent weeks, Azerbaijan has initiated shipments of domestically produced petroleum products to Armenia, marking a significant step in improving bilateral relations after years of conflict.
