Hacker Behind Major Polish Data Breach Arrested After Long Pursuit

Warsaw: The hacker responsible for one of Poland's largest data breaches has been apprehended after an extensive eight-year pursuit, officials announced on Monday. This arrest marks a significant milestone in the investigation of a high-profile cybercrime case.

According to Anadolu Agency, Commander Marcin Zagorski, the spokesperson for the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime, revealed that the 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody on January 30. The arrest was reported by the broadcaster TVP World. The individual has confessed to the charges, which include unlawfully obtaining and disclosing sensitive data.

The hacker was implicated in the 2018 data breach of Morele.net, a well-known Polish online electronics retailer. This breach compromised the personal information of over two million individuals, exposing names, contact information, addresses, and hashed passwords.

If convicted, the hacker faces a potential prison sentence of up to two years for the offense. The arrest is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime in Poland.
