New york: Trkiye’s UN envoy criticized Israel’s “unilateral measures” in the occupied West Bank, accusing the nation of deepening its “unlawful” presence there. The envoy also highlighted the necessity for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip to bolster recovery efforts.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ahmet Yildiz, representing Trkiye, addressed the UN Security Council’s high-level session on the Palestinian situation, emphasizing that while global focus remains on the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, Israel continues to implement measures that entrench its presence in the West Bank. Yildiz stressed the importance of fully executing the ceasefire arrangements, including Security Council resolution 2803 and former US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan. He noted that maintaining the ceasefire is crucial to prevent further violence and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, early recovery, and meaningful political dialogue.
Yildiz condemned the ongoing attacks and restrictions on humanitarian aid, asserting that aid entering Gaza must be significantly increased and allowed to flow without hindrance. He stated that a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza is necessary to facilitate recovery and reconstruction, and that Trkiye is prepared to actively participate in these reconstruction efforts.
He reiterated Trkiye’s firm opposition to Israeli annexation in the West Bank, labeling such actions as severe violations of international law. Yildiz urged the Security Council to take decisive action, insisting that Israel should be compelled to cease its escalation in the occupied West Bank, fully implement the ceasefire arrangements, and end its illegal occupation.
Yildiz concluded by stating that the momentum generated by the ceasefire in Gaza should be channeled into implementing a two-state solution, affirming Trkiye’s commitment to acting as a constructive and reliable partner in these efforts.
