Pan-Islamic Group to Convene Emergency Meeting on Israeli West Bank Decisions

Jeddah: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to convene an emergency meeting of its foreign ministers on Thursday. This urgent assembly aims to address and discuss Israel's recent decisions regarding the expansion of illegal settlements and potential annexation of the occupied West Bank.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting in Jeddah has been initiated at the request of Palestine. The key objective is to coordinate responses and strategize actions against these 'invalid decisions' that aim to alter the legal, political, and demographic landscape of Palestinian territories, potentially undermining the two-state solution. The OIC's General Secretariat emphasized these concerns in a recent statement.

On February 15, the Israeli government took a significant step by approving a proposal to classify large areas in the West Bank as 'state property.' This marks the first such action since Israel occupied the territory in 1967. As reported by Israeli media, this measure involves resuming previously halted land registration processes, annulling old Jordanian laws that restricted land sales to Jews, and revealing land records that have been confidential for many years.

Palestinians have expressed grave concerns, warning that Israel's actions could lead to a formal annexation of the occupied West Bank. They argue that such moves would effectively close the door on the establishment of a Palestinian state, as envisioned in United Nations resolutions.
