Beirut: The Lebanese army reported on Tuesday that Israeli forces targeted a newly established monitoring post along the southern border, marking a breach of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement. The incident occurred as army personnel were setting up the post near Sarda in the Marjayoun district, and Israeli fire was directed at the vicinity of the post.

According to Anadolu Agency, an Israeli drone flew at a low altitude over the area, issuing threats to force Lebanese troops to withdraw. In response, the Lebanese military has ordered reinforcements to the post and instructed personnel to remain in position and respond to any sources of fire. The army is actively following up on the incident with the ceasefire oversight committee and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Lebanon's state news agency NNA also reported that Israeli forces launched stun grenades and opened fire from the newly established El Hamames position towards Lebanese soldiers in Sarda. An Israeli drone was noted to have flown over the site, demanding that Lebanese soldiers evacuate the area.

The Israeli army confirmed that it had fired warning shots toward Lebanese soldiers after the post was established "without coordination." A military statement indicated that Israeli forces had attempted to communicate with the Lebanese soldiers through coordination and liaison channels to halt their activities. "After no response was received, IDF (army) troops carried out warning shots to stop the activity," the army stated.

This attack is part of a pattern of repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, resulting in the deaths and injuries of numerous Lebanese. Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest conflict, along with other Lebanese territories it has held for decades.
