Beirut: Lebanon announced on Tuesday the arrest of three foreign nationals suspected of engaging in activities deemed suspicious and related to collaboration with Israel. The General Directorate of General Security released a statement detailing the arrests, stating that they were based on precise intelligence and investigations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the individuals were subjected to interrogations under judicial supervision and subsequently confessed to providing Israel with security-sensitive information. This information reportedly contributed to severe damage in Lebanon, resulting in significant loss of life and property.

The directorate confirmed that after completing the necessary legal procedures, the detainees were transferred to the competent judicial authorities to face legal action as per applicable laws. However, the nationalities of the arrested individuals have not been disclosed.

These arrests occur amidst heightened tensions between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, as both sides frequently exchange fire amid a regional escalation. Since Monday, Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon have resulted in at least 52 fatalities and over 150 injuries.

The regional situation has further intensified following a large-scale attack by the US and Israel on Iran, which took place on Saturday and led to the deaths of nearly 800 people, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes against Israel and Gulf countries hosting US assets.
