Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani asserted that Iraq will not permit any threats against Iran to originate from its territory, while condemning US and Israeli military actions against Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, al-Sudani made these statements during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The discussion centered on regional developments, particularly in light of the military strikes by the US and Israel targeting Iran.

Al-Sudani criticized the military aggression as being against international standards and ethics. During the call, he expressed condolences to Iran over the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which reportedly occurred during the attacks by the US and Israeli forces. He reiterated that Iraq is committed to ensuring its territory is not used as a launching ground for threats against Iran.

Araghchi expressed gratitude towards the Iraqi government, its citizens, and religious leaders for their support and condemnation of the attacks. He emphasized Iran's determination to uphold its national sovereignty and territorial integrity against external aggressions.

He further attributed the instability in the region to the actions of the US and Israel, calling for vigilance among regional and Islamic nations to thwart attempts aimed at destabilizing the region and creating divisions among Muslim countries.

The ongoing conflict has seen Israel and the US conduct large-scale attacks on Iran, resulting in significant casualties, including the death of Khamenei and high-ranking military officials. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military installations.
