Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that Senator Markwayne Mullin will replace Kristi Noem as the Secretary of Homeland Security. The change in leadership is set to take effect on March 31, 2026, as confirmed by Trump's statement on his Truth Social platform.

According to Anadolu Agency, Noem will transition to a new role as the special envoy for 'The Shield of the Americas,' which is a security initiative aimed at enhancing safety measures across the Western Hemisphere. This initiative is scheduled to be officially unveiled in Florida on Saturday.

In his announcement, Trump emphasized Mullin's commitment to strengthening border security and addressing drug trafficking issues. He stated that Mullin will focus on preventing illegal entry of criminals and drugs into the country, with the goal of enhancing national safety.

Reports previously indicated that Trump was exploring replacements for Noem due to his dissatisfaction with her performance, particularly following her congressional testimony. Noem has been under scrutiny after the killings of two Americans in Minnesota by ICE agents, which intensified calls from Democrats for her dismissal and led to an impeachment resolution against her.
