US Import Prices Increase by 0.2% in January

Washington: US import prices rose 0.2% in January following a similar increase in the previous month, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Thursday. Nonfuel import price gains were able to more than offset the decrease in fuel prices during the first month of the year.

According to Anadolu Agency, import prices slightly decreased by 0.1% for the 12-month period ending in January. During the same period, import fuel prices saw a decline of 2.2%, following a 1.1% drop in December. Specifically, petroleum prices fell by 2.7% in January, while natural gas prices experienced an increase of 3.3%.

The annual outlook showed that fuel prices have decreased by 13.4% since January of the previous year. In contrast, US export prices have also seen an upward trend, climbing 0.6% in January after a similar rise in December. Over the past year, export prices surged by 3.1% compared to January 2025.

The increase in nonagricultural export prices managed to balance the steady agricultural prices throughout the month, indicating a varied performance across different sectors.
