3 Killed, 6 Injured as Israeli Airstrikes Target Beirut Airport Road

Beirut: Three people were killed, and six others injured in two Israeli airstrikes targeting vehicles on the road leading to Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport. According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, the strikes occurred on Wednesday, marking an escalation in the ongoing conflict. According to Anadolu Agency, reported that an Israeli drone struck a vehicle on the airport highway before targeting another car minutes later in the same area. The Israeli military confirmed the strikes, claiming they targeted two Hezbollah members in the Beirut area, although no further details were provided. Israel's Channel 12 reported that the intended target was a Hezbollah official responsible for 'fire management,' though the identity of the individual was not disclosed. Meanwhile, Lebanese media stated that Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on Choueifat, a city south of Beirut. The Israeli military claimed the completion of a 'wave of attacks' in Lebanon, asserting that Hezbollah infrastructure had bee n destroyed. The strikes reportedly targeted rocket launch sites south of the Litani River and a workshop used for drone production. In a related incident, the Israeli army reported that sirens were activated in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and Kiryat Shmona, a northern Israeli city, following the detection of a drone launch from Lebanon. Monday saw Hezbollah targeting a military site in northern Israel with rockets and drones in response to ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei amid US-Israeli strikes on Iran since Saturday. Following these developments, the Israeli military announced an 'offensive campaign' against Hezbollah, launching a series of airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and areas in southern Lebanon. While Israel maintains that its targets are Hezbollah infrastructure, Lebanese media report that civilian facilities have also been affected. Israel has imposed strict restrictions on publishing information about casualt ies resulting from Iranian or Hezbollah missile strikes or interceptions and has banned the circulation of related footage. The conflict, which began in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024, has resulted in the deaths of over 4,000 people and injuries to approximately 17,000 others.
