Beijing: US President Donald Trump's visit to China later this month will be restricted to the capital Beijing, said a Chinese media report on Monday. The venue restriction is due to Trump's tight schedule and security concerns.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported that the decision to limit the visit to Beijing was influenced by Trump's packed agenda and security considerations, citing sources familiar with the matter. The White House has announced that Trump will embark on a three-day visit to China starting March 31, marking the first visit by a US president to China since 2017.

Washington's "advance parties" arrived in Beijing in "early March" to prepare for the high-stakes summit, with preparations reportedly entering the "final stage." Earlier media reports had suggested that a visit to more than one city was under consideration. However, an unnamed source indicated, "Unfortunately, his schedule is very tight. There is no room to squeeze in a visit to a second city."

The source also mentioned that recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran have had a "very limited" impact on the summit's preparation. Both sides recognize the importance of their bilateral relationship, described as "the world's most consequential," and both leaders are eager to meet.

A second anonymous source highlighted security as another top concern, stating, "Adding a second destination would likely compromise security and create a logistical nightmare, so both sides agreed that the visit will be in Beijing only." The source added that there may be an opportunity for Trump to visit Shenzhen during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering in November, suggesting there is no immediate need to visit multiple cities. Despite the situation in the Middle East, the source expressed confidence that the summit's security arrangements would ensure its success.
